Should MythBusters Do A 9/11 Show?

So Obi Ken tells me that he posted a message on the MythBusters forum asking them to do a show to debunk the many 9/11 conspiracy theories.

He said they deleted his post.

Yes, a 9/11 conspiracy theory debunking episode of MythBusters some might deem to be in bad taste, but I'm thinking it just MIGHT be necessary.

I wandered onto this online talk show called One Black Man's View and they were REALLY spewing all the garbage about the World Trade Center buildings being destroyed as the result of controlled demolition carried out by THE US GOVERNMENT.

Obi Ken and I pointed out the similarities of the WTC collapses to the gasoline fire in California that brought down a bridge earlier this year, but the one thing that has never made sense to me about any sort of theory about there being deliberate demolition charges involved in the WTC collapses is that the collapses DIDN'T look like controlled implosions AT ALL - no small series of explosions leading up the collapses, and the collapses started RIGHT at the levels where the planes hit.

In fact there's a really great stop-motion video of the North Tower Collapse where they're trying to say they see the TV towers falling first, but what is really obvious is that the floors ABOVE the level where the plane hit collapsed almost completely before the rest of the building started to come down.

If the rest of the building had been lined with explosives wouldn't the burning jet fuel shooting down the elevator shafts have ignited some of those charges first and brought the building down starting at a lower level that was under more weight?

Has there been massive shenanigans and impropriety in the Bush Administration?

You betcha'.

Did they DELIBERATELY blow up these buildings?

Somehow I don't think so ...

Like i said....too many peole with too much free time. Dont get me wrong, i love a good conspiracy. Kennedy, Lincoln, sewer gators, you name it. but the attacks were too random, yet flawless, to be faked. at 3000 degrees, or whatever the temp was, there are no certainties. nobody knows exactly what will happen simply because nobodys ever seen that before.

Conspiracy theories can be fun. I love watching a good conspiracy or theory debunking show on TLC or Discovery.

Have you ever seen the Loose Change videos. If you haven't they are on you tube. At first I thought they were interesting- I didn't buy it but it was interesting to see a different take on things.

A few weeks ago I watched a show on how some of the makers of the loose change videos have harassed victims of 9/11 - that ended my interest in dumb 9/11 theories, or at least their perverted attempts at it.

Good job Axinar.

Some people just hate Pres. Bush so much that they're willing to go to any lengths necessary to make him look bad. They're coming close to being insane.

Nevermind, they are.

Umm, if all the floors above "collapsed completely" beforehand, what caused the rest of the building to fail? The rest of the building held them up for 29 years, why stop now?

Outside of Hollywood, fire doesn't cause explosives to detonate. Demolition charges like thermite ignite at 1200 degrees celsius - you have to use a secondary compound to ignite them.

The Discovery Channel and TLC have strayed far from science. Keep the facts straight - us engineers aren't saying that Bush did it, but we are saying that the planes didn't. It will take an investigation for us to know who did do it.

I personally would like to see MythBusters melt a structural steel column using jet fuel - not because I want to drag their name in the mud, but because I hope that their inability to do so might cause more people to question the facts.

I respect anyone who supports a scientific and engineering discussion of what happened. Such a conversation does not include politics, unsubstantiated facts, or "expert" speculation.

They already tried and failed.

That site is a spoof. If you read the whole thing you find near the bottom it says "Footnote: While the above spoof was satire and never happened..."

"wouldn't the burning jet fuel shooting down the elevator shafts have ignited some of those charges first"

Why even make the assuption of jet fuel shooting down elevator shafts? Because fire fighters found the lobby of the trade tower was destroyed, its on video.

The elevator shaft fireball scenario is the official story, even though no continous shafts went from the impact sites to the lobby.
