This is part one of a SIXTEEN PART YouTube video that has been making the rounds of some of the Conspiracy Nut blogs.

Now, I haven't had a chance to watch this all the way through yet. I've caught parts about super computers in top-secret installations in Colorado and various other things.

I also have heard there's something in here that's saying that the government has been DELIBERATELY contaminating vaccines in order to CAUSE autism??

Does anyone point me in the direction of a good transcript of these videos??

Focal Length Ignorance Leads To Virginia Tech Conspiracy Theory

Much like a lack of basic knowledge of how film reacts to different levels of light leads to conspiracy theories about the Apollo moon landings, apparently a lack of even a modicum of understanding of the concept of FOCAL LENGTH has led to my good, close, personal friend, the Dean of Cincinnati, posting a WHOPPER saying that two pictures both claiming to be of the Va. Tech shooter are two different people.

Oh, dear God.

The picture on the left is of a student ID.

The picture on the right is from a video sent to the media claiming responsibility for the shooting.

The picture on the left was taken with a commercial "passport photo" type camera set at - what do you figure? - 100mm (35mm equivalent) or so? Tends to flatten the features. Tends to make a person look as they would look at a little bit of a distance, right? It's a "medium telephoto" pic. 50mm being considered "normal" and equivalent to the focal length of the unaided human eye.

The photo on the right looks to have been taken with something like a cell phone camera, right? Looks to be - what? - maybe 30mm (35mm equivalent). It's set so wide so as to be relatively insensitive to focus.

What does a wide angle lens at short range do to a human face?

Distort it!

HUGE nose.

HUGE lips.

Basically everything completely out of proportion and warped - sometimes beyond recognition.

Although it's impossible to tell when comparing photographs taken with such different length lenses - looks like roughly the same age, the same race, no differing moles, tatoos, or other marks.

I'm thinking this is pretty likely the same person.

People have WAY too much time on their hands these days ...

Convergys Discriminating Against Conspiracist Linux Geeks?

Yesterday I picked up a piece from WKRC that Howard Ain had discovered several LEGITIMATE "work-at-home" companies.

Our favorite Conspiracy Nut took very little time to severly criticize, I presume, Convergys for requiring a Windows-based PC for their "Remote Agent" program.

ConspiracyNut goes on to inform us "i bet my nix box without any av and free iptables is more secure than the required crap they list in their FAQs."

What she is saying - I think - is that her Linux-based PC is more secure than a Windows-based box loaded to the brim with anti-virus and anti-malware software.

She may be right.

Although I'm guessing the discussion is somewhat academic.

There are many reasons that people use Linux, BSD, and OpenSolaris-based derivatives. They're cheap and you can make any modifications you want all the way down to the 'C' code. For those of you who have ever been brave enough to take on the Linux From Scratch project, open source operating systems are also really cool for - yes - building new operating systems - something that of course Microsoft would NEVER want you to do.

I'm pretty sure some of these reasons factor in to why Conspiracy Nut uses Linux, but, after MANY hours of intense instant message conversations with her (and can you imagine four-hour IM sessions with one window prattling on about the Federal Reserve and another with someone else prattling on about Milo and how they're going to kill themselves? - no wonder I'm going batty), I'm pretty sure one of the big reasons she uses it is because it doesn't "phone home" - or check in with it's originating servers like Windows does from time to time.

That being the case, even though it looks like Convergys does allow some of their employees to work from home, I'm guessing these employees are paid on a W2 basis. What this means is that, at some point or another, if Conspiracy Nut were hired by Convergys she would have to fork over her Social Security number and reports would be sent every two weeks from Convergys to THE GOVERNMENT about, specifically, how much Convergys paid her. As she certainly is freaked the f*ck out about Microsoft knowing, perhaps, that she watched Amanda Baggs' "In My Language" or something of the sort, I can't IMAGINE ConspiracyNut EVER consenting to work on a W2 basis.

For that matter, I can't imagine someone with her view of the world working on a 1099 or a "corp-to-corp" basis either. Those structures would require [[gasp]], the paying company to report her existence, the work she did, and the amount they paid her to THE GOVERNMENT so that the paying company can write her fees off on their taxes.

No ... to maintain intellectual honesty, I think ConspiracyNut is going to have to take up some sort of all-cash employment - running errands, selling drugs, etc. ... and I'm guessing she'll only take gold and silver coin in payment because I'm sure you DO know her feelings about the US Dollar ... :)

AT&T Whistle-Blower Hits D.C. To Stop Telecom Spying Immunity: The Conspiracist Report For Today

Today's contribution from our favorite Conspiracy Nut is a Wired Blog Network story about a former AT&T technician turned whistleblower who is asking lawmakers to hold up a lawsuit against his former employer for wiretapping the Internet without a warrant.

Yep, those lovely folks, who, interestingly enough, do run a wireless network where you CAN run such lovely software as Opera Mini 4, apparently ran HUGE diversion pipes from their backbone services in order to allow the government to get ALL up in your business (and, more importantly, the Conspiracy Nut's business) apparently without a warrant.

No doubt at this very moment someone at the NSA is taking great delight in reading Axinar's, not by surfing directly to it like anyone else would, but probably by torturing himself reading the raw 7-bit data streaming from Cincinnati to Google ...

REAL nice way to treat your customers - particularly a nine-year-old third grader.

The Conspiracist Report

Pretty much every day my favorite conspiracist friend sends me a stream of links that detail various aspects of clandestine activities by the government via IM (as opposed to an organized email that I could digest in a reasonable manner).

Very often I'm not sure WHAT to say about these things, but I figured I'd go ahead and run them and maybe y'all will start a comment thread [[ahem]] or some such and we'll see where it goes.

From the "Better Late Than Never" department is a story from Wired about how the FBI, if I understand this story correctly, has a semi-automatic digital eavesdropping network.

Yes, that always makes you feel REAL good - almost as good as when White House employees used to regularly read Axinar's. I guess the blog thing has pretty much blown over as nobody seems to CARE now. On the other hand, somewhat ironically, in a desperate attempt to build ratings, Axinar's has, in many ways, gone the route in topics as The Jerry Springer Show once did, so it should be a surprise to no one that nobody reads my ramblings any more.

Her next link is a site something about some problems with syncing UNIX time with UTC due to problems with some of the basic UNIX protocols and how they handle leap seconds.

No, I'm not sure how this is a conspiracy exactly, but maybe she'll fill us in. :)

(Although she tells me she's too paranoid to sync her computers to time.gov.)

The next is one that has come up quite a few times over the years - yes, the government just might be secretly pilfering the gold reserves at Fort Knox.

Of course the gold holdings at Fort Knox are so utterly insignificant in relation to the overall economy so as to be laughable.

On the other hand, if the government is being sneaky about it, it does deserve some attention.

Of course, since we are talking about an outfit that somehow snuck into WTC 1, WTC 2, and WTC 7 over a period of MONTHS or YEARS, rigged all three with TNT, and then managed to get the two biggest ones to collapse at EXACTLY the level where two MANIACS had just hit them with JUMBO JETS, I suppose a little shell game with gold bars is certainly not beyond them ...

CIA AND The Vatican Editing Wikipedia Entries

Now, if this isn't enough to make you lose sleep ...

The BBC is reporting that researchers have discovered that agents on CIA-controlled computers have modified the Wikipedia entry on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and that representatives of the Pope have manipulated the Wikipedia profile of Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams.

Oh, isn't THAT nice??

Apparently also representatives of the Democratic Party added commentary to the Wikipedia entry on Rush Limbaugh calling him "idiotic", a "racist" and a "bigot".

Really nice.

Oh, yes ... how we LOVE the information contributed to humanity's collective knowledge by such fine, upstanding, trustworthy and, most importantly - unbiased - organizations ...
